Munnar is among the crown jewels of God’s Own Country and has attracted visitors from around the world for centuries due to its natural splendour. Hidden inside, lies the famous Eravikulam National Park, the home and sanctuary of the Nilgiri Tahr. This sacred haven for this exotic animal is a relief in a time when different species are disappearing off the face of the planet. Situated in the Devikulam Taluk of Idukki district, people also flock to this park to view the special Neelakurinji flowers that bloom once every 12 years. The next sighting is expected to be in 2030.

Eravikulam national park also boasts of hosting South India’s highest peak, Anamudi (2695 m), in its southern area. This park is spread over an area of 97 square kilometers and packs tons of fun spots for people to have a good time in. One can see the crowds around the Echo Point, where the natural view and unique setting adds to the eponymous phenomenon. The Rajamalai region of the park is open to the public and from here; the exotic Nilgiri Tahr can be viewed. The Rajamalai region falls under the tourism zone of the area. The other two are the Core area and Buffer area which are both not open to the public. There is a host of trekking options as well in the area.

The rare flora and fauna present in the Eravikulam national park also attract visitors. Official vehicles take people on trips where one can experience the biodiversity of a high elevation shola-grassland system. One can view rare terrestrial and epiphytic orchids and beautiful wild balsams along with the Nilgiri Langur, leopards and the Indian Bison as well.

I visited Eravikulam National Park this Tuesday, and it was a wonderful experience. The park is very well maintained, with breathtaking views of the hills and lush greenery. The ride up to the park itself is scenic and enjoyable. The highlight was spotting the Nilgiri Tahr, which is rare to see in the wild. The staff was friendly and organized, and the facilities were clean. Toilets are available and well maintained. It’s a great place for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. The weather was pleasant, which made the walk comfortable. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Munnar! 🌿✨

This is a must visit place in Munnar. Calm, serene, mountain peek in western ghats makes you feel like to retire early settle there alone. Away from chaos, busy life this is the place of The Great Nilgiri Tahr, an endangered species of mountain goats. Well they don't enjoy a peacefull life, 2 legged animals visit them only to steel their privacy.... But yes, I recommend this place to all nature lovers.... Plz bring umbrella, and woolen clothes.

Stunning, unexpected, out of the world! In our 3 days visit to Munnar (Sep 3rd week, 2025), Eravikulam park stands out. The views of sprawling tea gardens, the tall fall, and the mammoth rocks look furnished like a huge and well spread luxury. Great for memories and photos. There were 2 way to go to the elevated park. Bus and open EV. Both are good. EV can go to the highest point and stop as and where you want. There are 2 shops for refreshments, and utilities in the park. EV comes with Rs. 7500 for 5 seats- club able. Bus is ~Rs. 200 per seat. Entry is up to 4 pm.

Had a great experience . The climate was amazing. Had an opportunity to see nilgiri tahr. Neatly maintained. Clear restrooms. The ecstacy of nature mixed with rain , fog , mist and chillness which is unexplainable. The only problem I had was with the car parking
